We're now a Pending B-Corp 🎉
We’re thrilled to announce that OurHands is now certified as a Pending B-Corp. That means that we are committed to using our business as a force for good and are on the path to become a Certified B Corporation. In this brief post we’ll go over what that means for our business and the ways it’ll impact the way we operate and the products we make.
The process
Over the next 12 months we’ll be working alongside the amazing B-Corp team in order to become a fully Certified B Corporation. In order to be certified we’ll need to prove to B-Lab, the organisation that runs the program, that we:
Demonstrate high social and environmental performance by achieving a B Impact Assessment score of 80 or above and passing our risk review.Â
Make a legal commitment by changing [our] corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders, and achieve benefit corporation status if available in their jurisdiction.
Exhibit transparency by allowing information about [our] performance measured against B Lab’s standards to be publicly available on [our] B Corp profile on B Lab’s website. Â
What that means for us
From the very start we’ve had social responsibility and sustainability at the core of our business principles, so luckily we’ve not got a huge amount of work to do in terms of changing the way we run our business. The largest task will be proving and documenting all the great things we’re already doing, which is no small feat!
We have already made a legal commitment to changing our corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, which means we’re accountable to our community, our suppliers and customers as well as the planet.
