Dive into our new and improved Bath Brew kit!

As we once again inch closer to the end of the year, it becomes increasingly important to carve out little moments of self-care throughout the week. But with the cold and darkness of winter impacting both our bodies and our minds, the stress of preparing for the holidays, and the strain of our everyday modern lives, it can be difficult to make time for our own needs.

At OurHands, we believe that a bath is the solution to most of our wintery woes. Warm, comforting, and delightfully self-indulgent, it is the perfect pick-me-up at the end of a long week.
When we created our Bath Brew Kit, we wanted to offer people a one-of-a-kind ‘spa in a box’ experience that would change the way people think of bath products. By allowing people to blend their own natural ingredients instead of using pre-made manufactured chemicals, we were hoping to help people relax on their terms while being kinder to the planet.
Slowly, as more and more people realised the importance of sustainable self-care, the Bath Brew Kit became one of our most popular kits! Grateful and humbled, we decided to listen to our customers’ feedback to make the kit as soothing and exciting as possible. Finally the new version of the kit is out!
In this article, we will go over the changes we brought to our Bath Brew Kit, as well as a few tips on how to get the most out of it.

The new Bath Brew Kit

New ingredients

The first version of the kit mixed botanicals and minerals to soothe both body and mind. As we wanted the kit to be more respectful of sensitive skin, we’ve now replaced the Epsom salts and Himalayan pink salt with different types of tea. Gentler on the skin and more fragrant than the salts, each of the three types of tea we provide will offer different benefits.
  • Green Tea: Did you know that green tea contains more antioxidants than most other teas? Antioxidants help protect your body from harmful molecules: they can reduce inflammation, improve mental health, and even contribute to slowing down signs of ageing! Bathing in green tea can also help relieve tired muscles and soften skin.
  • Ceylon Tea: On top of its delightful fragrance, Ceylon Tea is rich in polyphenols, which makes it great for boosting general wellness and skin health. The subtle caffeine content provides a delicate energy boost, turning your bath into a revitalising journey for both body and mind.
  • Earl Grey: Black tea is extremely cleansing and can help to reduce itching and redness of the skin. It is the perfect ingredient to deal with minor sunburns or slightly irritated skin. The hot water will also help release the bergamot oil from the tea, which will delicately perfume your bathroom with its soothing scent.

Tried and true

Alongside these new ingredients, the kit still provides tried and true botanicals and herbs that will help you relax and find your glow.
  • Oats: The protective and moisturising properties of oats make them the perfect ingredient to relieve sensitive skin. The oats form an invisible barrier on your skin that keeps hydration in and locks irritants out, leaving your skin nourished and safe.
  • Rose Petals: Rose petals are rich in natural oils which help keep your skin moisturised and glowing. They also add a touch of romance to your bath with their luxurious red colour and their sweet scent.
  • Marigold Flowers: Marigold flowers are ideal to treat skin irritations such as sunburn and dryness. They also add a beautiful burst of colour to your bath.
  • Peppermint: With its fresh fragrance, peppermint is the perfect invigorating ingredient for a mid-week bath. Pleasant and invigorating, it soothes muscle tension and boosts energy levels.
  • Rosemary: Rosemary helps with mental clarity and focus. Full of antimicrobial properties, it will also help your immune system resist the hardships of the cold weather.
  • Lemon Peel: Packed with vitamin C and nutrients, lemon peel uplifts your mood and rejuvenates your senses. The natural acids in the lemon peel gently exfoliate your skin, leaving it radiant and soft.

New recipes

Because everyone has different self-care needs, we also wanted to diversify the recipes that we provided in the kit. After a lot of research and testing, we’ve increased the number of bath brew blends in the kit from 4 to 8. Though we do encourage people to come up with their own bath tea ideas, we hope the recipes present in the booklet will help you relax in whatever way you need.
  • Destress: With a healthy balance of vitality and calm, this bath brew will help you drift off to a restful sleep and face the morning with renewed confidence.
  • Spring: Delightfully sweet and citrusy, this blend is packed with vitamins! It will help you resist the winter and get ready for spring.
  • Massage: True to its name, our Massage brew eases the pain out of overworked joints and relaxes tired muscles.
  • Boost: Say bye to winter blues! This fresh and energising blend will boost your immune system and lift your spirits.

Getting the most of our your bath brew kit

Create a self-care ritual

If you are feeling stressed and busy, just the thought of having to set time aside for self-care can be overwhelming. But you don’t need to stay in a bath for hours to reap its benefits! As little as 20 minutes of relaxation can do wonders for your physical and mental health.
We recommend being very deliberate with your self-care practice. You can start by setting the mood right with soft lighting, and perhaps some candles. They can be slightly scented to create a more luxurious atmosphere. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to relax! This is your moment to think of no one but yourself.
If you enjoy music, you can put on your favourite album or relaxing playlist. You can also watch a film on your laptop or read a book. Just be careful not to drop it in the water!
The biggest advantage of taking a bath as a self-care practice is that it forces you to do nothing for a bit. Alone in your tub, you can make time for yourself to simply exist, without any expectations or worries. Enjoy your time soaking in your bath brew, feeling the teas and botanicals take care of your troubles. We guarantee you’ll feel better!

Create your own bath brew recipes

One of the main advantages of making your own bath products is that, unlike store-bought items, you always know exactly what goes in them. Not only that, but you can actively tailor the result to your own specific needs!
Making your own bath tea is quick, easy, and incredibly rewarding. All you need is a cotton tea bag, some ingredients and a hot tub. Our Bath Brew Kit comes with eight different recipes that can be made with the botanicals in the kit, and we’ve developed some more recipes that can be made with extra ingredients.
If you’d like to create your own bath tea recipe, we’d recommend not starting from scratch! It can be quite overwhelming to research the hundreds of different ingredients and combinations that exist. Instead, start by slightly tweaking your favourite recipe to achieve different results. For instance, adding lavender to your bath brew will make it more calming, and result in a deeper sleep. Something like orange peel, on the other hand, will lift your spirits and give you a boost of energy. Research and source high-quality ingredients and make your own bath tea for every occasion!
Here are some ingredients that would make fantastic bath tea ingredients:
  • Epsom Salts: One of the most popular natural bath products, epsom salts are full of magnesium and nutrients that will relax your muscles.
  • Lavender: Lavender is one of the most relaxing bath ingredients you could use! It relieves stress and tension in the upper body, promotes more restful sleep, and moisturises the skin.
  • Milk Powder: Full of lactic acid, milk powder will gently exfoliate your skin and leave it soft and glowing! For a vegan option, you can try powdered coconut milk, which will also perfume your bathroom.
  • Lemon Balm: Soothing and antibacterial, lemon balm will help calm headaches and anxiety. It’s also great for irritated skin!
  • Orange Blossoms: Orange blossoms help take care of you skin by soothing and reducing redness. Its sweetly tart scent is in equal part relaxing and invigorating!

Please remember that, while there is no wrong way to make bath tea, some ingredients might be irritating to sensitive skin, or not recommended for pregnant people. We recommend doing a patch test with any ingredients you’re unfamiliar with before using them in your bath. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please consult your GP.

As always, our goal is to allow you to discover new hobbies and new ways to make your life more creative. We’ve carefully reviewed your feedback on our Bath Brew Kit, and we do hope you enjoy this new and improved version of the kit!
